MANCHESTER, Iowa -- Robert "Bob" Francis Vaske, 82, of Manchester, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Good Neighbor Home, Manchester.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manchester, with the Rev. John Flaherty, the Rev. John Kremer, Deacon Irvin Vaske and Deacon Dave Loecke concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Manchester. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, where the rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1927, in New Vienna, son of Alois and Marcella (Lechtenberg) Vaske. He lived with his family on the farm by New Vienna until 1942, when they moved to rural Manchester. In 1962, his parents retired from farming and they moved into Manchester. In 1998, Bob moved to the Penn Center, where he lived until October 2008, when he moved to the Good Neighbor Home.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Bob loved spending time with his family and he knew the birth dates and ages of all of his family members. Bob loved to read, play Parcheesi, read western novels and listen to polka music.

Surviving are his brothers and sisters, Walter (Ellen) Vaske, of Manchester, Laverne Vaske, of Marion, Irvin (Jeanette) Vaske, of Marshalltown, Mary Quint, of Ryan, and Eugene (Betty) Vaske and Leon (Verna) Vaske, both of Manchester; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Vaske, of Strawberry Point, and Loretta Vaske, of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur and Gerald Vaske; two sisters-in-law, Frances Vaske and Mary Vaske; and a brother-in-law, Sylvester Quint.
