Scott A. Allport, 55, of New Kensington, died after a long battle with cancer Monday, Jan. 18, 2010. He was born Jan. 27, 1954, in New Kensington, to the late James William "Sky" Allport and Marjorie Derwinis Allport.

He was a 1971 graduate of Valley High School. A welder for 32 years for Hilti Inc., he worked at the Mold Shop at Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge. Mr. Allport was a Navy veteran during the Vietnam era serving on the USS Saratoga. He was a member of the Tarentum Eagles Aerie 699 of Tarentum, the Outdoor Life Lodge of Fawn Township and was a Member-At-Large of the American Legion. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing, reading, telling jokes, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pitt Panthers basketball team.

Surviving him are his wife of 19 years, Peggy Chesnick Allport; his children, Erin and Jacob Allport; brother, Jim Allport, of Springdale; and his sister, Sherryl Allport, of Arnold; as well as nieces and nephews, Dawn (Ron) Chaffee, of Knoxville, Tenn., Melissa Hrabczuk, of Arnold, Michael (Lori) Cooney, of Lower Burrell, Carrie (Chris) Davis, of Natrona Heights, and Brian Allport, of Verona; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, New Kensington, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.

Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.

The Tarentum Eagles will hold a service in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
