Margaret Mary Johnson, 91, of Peetz, died Monday, May 1, 2000, in Sterling.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Sterling.

Margaret Bellender was born Nov. 25, 1908, in Gabel, Russia, to Lawrence Bellender and Catherine Rudolph Bellender.

The family emigrated to America in 1910 and homesteaded in the Sterling area. She graduated from St. Anthony High School in Sterling in 1927.

She married Delbert Johnson on Jan. 16, 1933. They moved to Peetz in 1937.

Mrs. Johnson was a switchboard operator and bookkeeper for the Peetz Co-op Telephone Co. for 15 years. She served as secretary/treasurer for the town from 1968 to 1983. She sold Avon products and was a Cub Scout den mother. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was an avid gardener & enjoyed canning vegetables and making grape jelly.

Survivors include four sons, James Johnson of Laramie, Wyo., Arthur Johnson of Fort Collins, Bill Johnson of Aurora, Charles Johnson of Westminster five daughters, Virginia Fehringer of American Falls, Idaho, Dorothy Kallweit of Littleton, Mary Hill of Sterling, Janet Willich of Stoneham and Barbara Schnug of Carr one sister, Elizabeth Sharman of LaQuinta, Calif. 49 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband one daughter, Patricia Volle one son, John Johnson three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Anthony Furnace Fund in Sterling or Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz.
