Deceased Name: FRANKLIN D. EDWARDS
Franklin D. Edwards, 96, of Hinsdale Road, Mattydale, died Saturday in James Square Nursing Home following a short illness.
A native of Cicero, Mr. Edwards had lived in Mattydale since 1920. For many years, he was a self-employed carpenter. He retired in 1965 after 10 years as a security guard for the General Electric Co. He then operated a saw-sharpening business from his home for 10 years. He also had worked at the Franklin Motors plant in Liverpool and the E.W. Edwards Department Store.
He was a member of the Malden Road United Church of Christ. He was a charter member and served as the first chief of the Hinsdale Fire Department in 1926 and '27.
Surviving are two brothers, Louis of Florida, and Kenneth of Mexico, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Susan Gross of China, Mich. and Sandra Mierisch of Provo, Utah; a grandson, Robert D. of Mattydale; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the North Syracuse Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Contributions may be made to the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department.
