He married Katie Duis in 1901. Their children: Ella (Kenneth Stubbs), Leonore (Boyd Biggs), Carl, Delma (Leon Bruning), and Richard.

Bruning Banner dated 7-9-1936:
Henry Middendorf died suddenly Wednesday afternoon. He was a long time Bruning resident and had lived in this community since its founding.
Death came peacefully while he was sleeping. Shortly after dinner he had lain down for a short nap and had asked to be awakened at a certain hour. He never awakened.
Henry Middendorf will be missed in this community. He had been a faithful volunteer observer for the United States Weather Bureau and had furnished them records for the past twenty-two years.

The body of Henry Middendorf, Bruning pioneer resident, was laid to rest in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery on July 11.
Mr. Middendorf passed away suddenly Wednesday afternoon. He had reached the age of 61.
Henry William Middendorf, son of Frederick W. Middendorf and Elizabeth Philippi, was born May 24, 1875, at Donsdorf, near Barnstof, Germany, and was baptized in his infancy. At the age of three years he came with his parents to America.
The family resided for a time near Gridley, Ill., but came shortly after to Nebraska and engaged in farming, being among the first settlers in this community.
He was married to Tetje Duis on October 17, 1901. Their union was blessed with five children. Mr. Middendorf was an active church member, serving on the board for fourteen years, resigning that office only when his health would not permit his participation.
He is survived by his wife, his daughters, Mrs. Ella Stubbs of Arlington, Wash., Leonore and Delma of Bruning; two sons, Carl and Richard of Bruning; his brother, Fred Middendorf of Kirkland, Wash.; his sisters, Mrs. G. W. Philippi and Mrs. Doretta Wilhelms, and a host of more distant relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his sister, Anna and brother William.
