Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with Pastor Carroll W. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Petty was born June 9, 1934, in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Hans J.P. and Erika E.M. (Klappert) Heinze. She married Bobby J. Petty of Effingham Dec. 9, 1954, in Augsburg, Germany, and he survives.
As an "Army wife," she raised her family around the world until her husband retired to his hometown of Effingham in 1971. Gretel was known as the "doll doctor," and she spent the next 30 years collecting and restoring hundreds of dolls. She also was employed at Spurgeon's Clothing Store, Effingham.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Alisha Noffke of Branson, Mo.; sons, Harry (wife, Jan) Petty of Terre Haute, Ind., and Eric (wife, Susan) Petty of Effingham; brother, Harold Heinze of Cologne, Germany; grandchildren, Jennifer Noffke of Athens, Ga., Ryan Noffke of Columbia, Mo., Gina LaGrande of Effingham, Joe Petty of Effingham, Veronica Spaulding of Olympia, Wash., Eleni Petty of Effingham, Nicolette Iatropoulos of Champaign, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
