Graduated from University of Illinois with a Bachelor degree in Home Economics in 1947.
Taught Home Economics at Warren High School, Warren, IL 1947-1950
University of Illinois Home Economics Extension Advisor for Jo Daviess County from 1950 until 1953, then transferred to DeKalb County from 1953-1957.
Home Economics Extension Service and associate professor of Home Economics at the University of Illinois from 1957 to 1971.
She married Earl McKellar on December 30, 1971, at her sister's home in Urbana, IL and retired briefly until Earl suffered a heart attack in 1976, after which she returned to the U. of I. as an associate professor. She retired from teaching for good in 1989 and moved to Bountiful, Utah where her nephew Pat Gilmore lived. Earl died at their home in Bountiful in November 1993 of a fatal heart attack and Esther died of respiratory failure one week to the day after her 70th birthday in 1995.
She and Earl both willed their bodies to the University of Utah Medical School and her cremains are buried next to her parents and her sister, Dorothy Siemen Gilmore, in the Elizabeth City Cemetery.
