A Good Man Gone From Us.
The Rev. A.R. Banks died at his residence at Rocky Mount on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1890, in the 83rd yearof his age. Mr. Banks came to this parish from Arkansas about 25 years ago, and until within the last year or two, was Pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Rocky Mount.
By the death of Mr. Banks, the church has lost one of its most honored servants and this parish one of its most repected and deserving citizens. He was in every sense a lovable man. Able, earnest, honest, broad-minded and benevolent, he had the respect of every one in the parish and the love of those who knew him. He was generous and kind and gave freely to those who needed counsel or assistance.
He was a man of profound learning, great zeal in the pursuit of knowledge and a judicious dispenser of what he had acquired. In company he was genial, affable and interesting. His mind was the receptacle [sic] of information, acquired by years of patient and studioas [sic] research, and his charming manner made him a most congenial companion. He was as devout as he was learned, free from prejudice or biggotry, pursuasivein preaching and sincere in his manners. He was a man in whom there was no guile--a man of gentleness ofdisposition and unselfish devotion to principle.
He leaves an invalid wife and a large family of children to mourn his death.
A good man has gone from us--a Christian patriarch has died full of years and of honor, and has gone to reap his reward. He has entered in to the "rest that remains to the people of God."
