Erle A. Smith of Morris died at 3:50 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 9. He was born in New Lisbon on Nov 17, 1881, son of William and Cora (Cook) Smith. He was married on August 18th 1915, to Harriet Moore at Morris. He had lived in Morris since 1936, when he came from New Lisbon.
He attended the New Lisbon school and was a graduate of Morris High School. He formerly was a farmer but after coming to Morris was a night watchman at the Linn Tractor plant and a school bus driver.
He was a member of Zion church, the West Laurens Grange and of the church vestry.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Smith, Hartford, Conn.; two sons, Francis of Sidney and Erle Jr., of Riverdale; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Zion Episcopal Church in Morris, with the Rev. Carl F. Truesdale officiating. Burial was in Hillington Cemetery."
