When Elizabeth Jane Effinger was born on February 28, 1816, in Woodstock, Virginia, her father, George, was 31, and her mother, Elizabeth, was 21. She married Thomas James Massie on January 9, 1844, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. They lived most of their married life at "Red Hill" south of Lovingston, VA where she died on February 23, 1892, having lived a long life of 75 years. She was buried in her husband's family "Level Green" cemetery outside of Massies Mill, Virginia. Having no children, "Red Hill' was then sold to the Stevens family.
