George H. Krass, 92, De Pere, formerly of Merrill, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Lansing, Ill., to Jacob and Maria Christina (Mathiesen)Krass. Following graduation from high school, George worked for Acme Steel until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and was stationed in England during World War II where he served in the Army Air Corps. During the war, George married Katherine Mohrland in Lansing, Ill., in 1943. Following World War II, George and Katherine owned and operated their own dairy farm near Merrill. In addition to working on his farm, George was employed at Merrill Manufacturing until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW, Trinity Lutheran Church in Berlin, and AAL (Thrivent). For 10 years, George and Katherine lived in Bentonville, Ark., until their return to Chippewa Falls, and later to Birch Creek in De Pere.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 67 years, Katherine; his children and their spouses, Edward Krass, Wheeler; Allan Krass, Green Bay; Dale and Carole Krass, Maiden Rock; Marilyn and Joseph Shorey, Sobieski; Randall and Barbara Krass, Eau Claire; ten grandchildren, Gregory, Cathi, Colleen, Heidi, Shari, Adea, Alex, Logan, Makayla, Nathan; seven great-grandchildren, Kyle, Renee, Noah, Sydnie, Kobe, Brennan, Victoria; two sisters, Annie and Dorothy; and a brother, William.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jacob, Christopher and Peter.

Friends may call at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2460 Mt. Olive Dr., Suamico, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. The Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Larry Nast officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Little Suamico.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in George's name.

The family extends a thank you to the staffs of Birch Creek and Bellin Hospital and to Dr. Elizabeth Russell.
