Hedwig Anna (Kortmann) Bohlmann (1898 - 1989)

Hedwig Anna Bohlmann, the daughter of William and Mary Gierstorf Kortmann, was born on Jan. 21, 1898, near Charter Oak, la. She died on Feb. 23, 1989, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of 91 years.

Hedwig grew up on the family farm and received her education in the St. Paul's Lutheran School in Hanover Township. She was baptized on Feb. 1, 1898 and confirmed on March 31, 1912, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township.

On March 26, 1916, she and Rudolph Bohlmann of Charter Oak were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with six children. They farmed in Morgan Township until retiring from the farm and moving to Denison in 1946. She became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison at that time. After Rudolph died she moved to Charter Oak, where she made her home for nine years, and transferred her membership to St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She returned to Denison and in 1983 entered Eventide Lutheran Home. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and a long time member of the Ladies Aid of the church.

Preceding Hedwig in death were her parents: her husband Rudolph and three brothers: Bernhard Kortmann, Gilbert Kortmann and Walter Kortmann and one great-grandson.

Survivors include her children: Estella Rahn of Denison, Ralph Bohlmann and his wife, La Verne of Charter Oak, Victor Bohlmann and his wife, Vernet of Jefferson, Edwin Bohlmann and his wife Lenora of Onawa, Leola and her husband, Truman Ault of Bloomington, Minn., and Orville Bohlmann and his wife, Clara of Denison. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren; nineteen greatgrandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Esther Kortmann of Denison.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services with interment in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Hanover Township. Mrs. Karen Kahl was organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist. Selections were "Asleep in Jesus" and "Nearer My God to Thee" with the congregation hymn "What A Friend We Have in Jesus." Serving as pallbearers were Kent Bohlmann, Randell Bohlmann, Blaine Bohlmann, Jonathon Ault, Gailen Meseck and Donald (Butch) Jensen.
