Irvin H. Kranz Jr., 70, of 1316 E. Mary St., died Feb. 23, 2010, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.He was born Oct. 29, 1939, in Ottumwa to Irvin H. and Georgia Winnipeg Kranz Sr. He married Rebecca McCarty in 1959. A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he graduated from Iowa State University in 1962 with a BMSE. He earned a degree in aerospace engineering in 1969 from Florida Institute of Technology. He had worked at McDonnell Douglas, Boeing, Vandenberg AFB and NASA at the Kennedy Space Center. He worked on the Apollo missions and the Challenger missions.Irvin was an avid Cubs and sports fan.Surviving are his children, Desi (Craig) Payne of Ottumwa, Cindy (Harry) Demetres of Orlando, Fla., and Jeff Kranz of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Nathan and Erin Payne, Stephanie and Lauren Demetres, Ashley and Jordan Kranz; and a sister, Jackie (James) McDonald of Ottumwa.He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lisa Kranz Proctor; and a brother, Keith Kranz.Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home; Pastor Larry Ulrich and Irvin's son-in-law, Craig Payne, officiating.Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5-7 p.m.Memorials may be made to the family.Obituary may be viewed at: www.legacy.com/ottumwacourier/Obituaries.asp.com.
