Leroy J. Zeller, 81, of Highland, Ill., born Aug. 26, 1924, in New Douglas, Ill., died at 4:28 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at St. Mary's Health Care Center St. Louis, Richmond Heights, Mo.

Mr. Zeller was born 1/2 mile north of Route 140. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with duty in Germany. He drove a milk truck for a short time for Wolf Trucking Co., Staunton, Ill. He was a laborer for Local 100, East St. Louis, Ill., for 55 years. He was known by his family and friends to ride around town nearly everyday on his scooter. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially fishing. He traveled to Hawaii and Alaska in 2005, several trips to Las Vegas and Lake of the Ozarks. He was a very hard worker and a person that would give you his shirt off his back. He was a 35-year member of Lee Iten Post 439, American Legion, Highland, Ill.; 20-year member of Masonic Lodge 583, A.F. & A.M. (Masons) Highland, Ill.; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Southern Illinois, Belleville, Ill.; Ainad Temple, A.A.O.N.O.M.S. (Shriners), East St. Louis, Ill., Highland Sportman's Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Rube" and Julia, nee Holzgang, Zeller; three sisters, Ella C. Segelken, Roberta Kuhn, and Katherine Lindgens; a brother, Lester Zeller; and a nephew, Richard Segelken.

He is survived by his wife, . . . , whom he married April 28, 1978, at Temple Baptist Church; a stepson, . . .; a stepdaughter, . . .; two step-grandchildren, . . . ; his nephews and nieces, . . . .; and his close friends, . . . .

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Ill., with the Rev. Curtis Hall officiating. Interment will be in Highland City Cemetery, Highland, Ill.
