Her husband of 72 years preceded her in death in December of 2001. She is survived by three children: Roger Zercher of Blanco; LaVerne Piehl and husband, Jack, of Kingwood; and Leroy Zercher and wife, Doris of Greenville, South Carolina. Paula celebrated 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters: Alvina Hilbert of Seguin and Linda Holzmann of New Braunfels, as well as by many nieces and nephews.
Paula was born on the Scheel Family farm, which is now on Camp Bullis in San Antonio. She was one of 10 children. Later, the family moved to the Bulverde area.
Pallbearers were Craig Gourley, Clayton and Shane Zercher, Randolph, Roger and Robert Doyer.
