Andrew Edward Anderson, 612 South 3rd street, former Rockford alderman and widely-known retired creamery operator, died at midnight Monday in Swedish-American hospital, where he had been a patient since Oct. 7. His age was 71.
A resident of Rockford for 61 years, Mr. Anderson had been for 35 years in the creamery and butter business, which he entered in 1895.
He was partner with the late Alfred Wessman in the Cherry Valley Creamery company and later was assocated with Alfred Johnson in the Guilford Creamery company. Mr. Johnson was president of the firm when he sold his interests in 1936.
A leader in the many public improvements installed in Rockford in the early 1900's, Mr. Anderson was elected to the city council from the sixth ward for three terms in 1909, 1911, and 1917. He was alderman during the administrations of the late Mayors Mark Jardine, William Wirt Bennett, and Robert Rew.
Surviving Mr. Anderson are his wife, the former Emma Lundquist, whom he married at Pecatonica on Oct. 31, 1892; four daughters, Mrs. Carl E. Paulson, Rockford, Mrs. George H. Kriener, Melbourne, Fla., Mrs. Carl H. Freeman, Denver, Co., and Mary Anderson at home.
Also surviving are a grandson, Lt. Carl E. Paulson, now in Japan; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Johnson, Rockford and many cousins.
Funeral services have been arranged for Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Olson mortuary, 1001 2nd ave. The reverend Wilbert Benson, pastor of Emmanual Luthern church where Mr. Anderson had been an active member
