Born in Baltimore, Md., son of the late C. Herbert and Margaret (Stromberg) Hufnagel, he had been a resident of Marblehead since 1966. He was employed as a design engineer for the General Electric Co. in Lynn since 1956.
Mr. Hufnagel was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and was a graduate of Baltimore Polytech High School and Johns Hopkins University. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, and a member of the Elfun Society of General Electric.
Mr. Hufnagel was active in the local Boy Scout Council, having served as an assistant leader of the Troop 79 Cub Scouts. He was an active member of the Marblehead Rifle Club.
Mr. Hufnagel also served on the Clifton Lutheran Church Council, and was council president at one time. He was also a deacon of the church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert H. Hufnagel, Jr. and Carl A. Hufnagel, both of Salem, and John C. Hufnagel of Los Angeles; three daughters, Mrs. Paul A. (Ellen M.) Fernandes of Boston, Margaret F. Hufnagel, and Jane E. Hufnagel, both of Marblehead; one brother, C. Herbert Hufnagel, Jr. of Baltimore; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 27, in the Clifton Lutheran Church, Humphrey Street, Marblehead.
