Edward Patzke, 86, Bly, died July 20, 2001, of natural causes in Klamath Falls.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Assembly of God Church in Bly with The Reverend Tim Schedler officiating. They will be followed by a potluck in the Bly Fire Hall. Interment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens. Eternal Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Patzke was born July 6, 1915, in Aldine, Ind., to Frank and Myrtle (Shivley) Patzke.
After attending college, he moved to Bly in 1935 and worked in carpentry for several years before working in timber industry as a timber faller, then in a sawmill.
He married Ople Sanders on May 14, 1938.
In 1951, they purchased the Shell Service Station in Bly and operated it for 31 years.
Among his hobbies were reading, fishing, picking mushrooms, watching the Portland Trail Blazers professional basketball team's games on television, and photography.
Mr. Patzke was an active member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Bly. He had the habit of blessing everyone he met with a handshake and a hug and especially enjoyed the music and singing at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Ople Patzke of Bly; son, James Patzke of Kennewick, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Gene Gentry of Klamath Falls; granddaughter and her husband, Joey and Scott Smith of Vancouver, Wash.; grandsons and their wives, Tyler and Ann Patzke of Klamath Falls and Shane and Tiffany Patzke of Eltopia, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Crystal and James Patzke and Kaulin Patzke; sisters, Dottie McGinnis of Klamath Falls, Joyce Ausherman of Redding and Betty Mitchell of Greensborough, S.C.; sister-in-law and her husband, Alice and James Alice Boyd of Cottonwood, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Annie and Maxine Patzke of Klamath Falls; and numerous other family members and friends, including a special friend and fishing partner, Sharon Banta.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Albert, Pat and Jack Patzke; his youngest brother, Dick, and his sister, Joan, who were killed by a Japanese balloon bomb on Gearhart Mountain near Bly.
Memorial donations may be made to Bly Christian Missionary Alliance Church.
