Marjorie I. “Margaret” Rooney Hackerott Schofield

Marjorie I. “Margaret” Schofield age 79 of Midland, South Dakota, died April 20, 1991,at her home in Midland, South Dakota. Margaret I. Rooney was born to John E. and Minnie (Schroder) Rooney on September 27, 1911, at their farm home north of Atwood,Kansas. As a child she was baptized into the Catholic faith. She grew up in the Atwood
area, attending school there. Upon completing high school, she attended nursing school in Denver, Colorado. After completing her training, she worked as a nurse at
the hospital in Atwood for a number of years. In 1937 she married Ernest Hackerott.
They moved to the Midland, SD area in the early 1950’s, having purchased a farm north of Midland. Ernest passed away on September 29, 1964. Margaret remained on the farm. On February 16, 1966, she was united in marriage to Alfred Schofield of Midland. They remained living on the farm, raising wheat and cattle. One of Margaret's greatest pleasures was to be driven out to see the fields and cattle in the pastures. Margaret was a member of St. William's Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and a member of the
Midland Legion Auxiliary. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Alfred; three step-children, Terry Schofield, Wilma (Mrs. Gaylor) Saucerman, and Carol (Mrs. Roy)
Hunt, all of Midland; seven step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Vinzant of Plainsville, Kansas; Eva Ryan of Pinedale, California; Anne
Mann of Goodland, Kansas; and Sara Pulaski, of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her first husband, Ernest,
she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Leola; and three brothers, John, Lloyd, and Patrick.
