Taryn Elizabeth Philips, 15, of rural Keosauqua died in a deer-caused one vehicle accident on Osage Avenue near her home southeast of Keosauqa at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 22, 2003. She was born September 6, 1987 in Keosauqua to Michael and Teresa Kreiss Philips. She was a sophomore student at Van Buren Community High School where she was active in band, had been a wrestling cheerleader and had run track.
She was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her mother and step-father, Teresa and Kevin McIntosh of Keosauqua, her father and step-mother, Michael and Kay Philips of Mt. Pleasant, two brothers, Derek and Bryce Philips, a half-sister, Brianna Philips, two step brothers, J.R. McIntosh and Landon Stevenson, a step-sister Elaina Stevenson and her boyfriend Brandon Warner.
Also surviving are grandparents, Arlo and Ellen Kreiss and Maynard Philips all of Keosauqua, great grandmother, Rachel Brewer of Keosauqua, and step-grandmother, Esther Ades of Ottumwa.
Funeral services were held Monday May 26, 2003 in Van Buren Community School gymnasium, Rev. ellis andrews officiated. Burial was in Center Chapel Cemetery southeast of Keosauqua.
