Bartholomew came to the US in February 1882 through the Port of Baltimore, having traveled from Bremen to Baltimore on February 21st, 1882 on the SS Ohio. He was 22 years old and traveled alone. Amost all the other passengers were of Prussian descent and several were bound for Milwaukee. None, however, appear to have been related. His brother Anton appears to have arrived in 1881 with an older Buretta family including Michael Bureta, age 44.
Michael Bureta is possibly either Bartholomew's father or his uncle. There is conflicting information on who his father is, John Bureta is listed on Bartholomew's death certificate as the father.
Poznan marriage records suggest that this family may have originated in Blugowo, Poznan, Poland.
