ROCHESTER -- A funeral mass for Raymond Stumvoll will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby. The celebrant will be the Rev. Francis Paquette. Friends may call one hour prior to the mass on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby. Mr. Stumvoll, 87, of Rochester, and formerly of Crosby, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.

Raymond Ardell Stumvoll was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Hingham, Mont., the son of Joseph and Jennie (nee Johnson) Stumvoll. He grew up in Becker, Minn., and then attended St. Cloud State University, where he obtained a teaching degree in math and science. From 1940 to 1945 he served in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of major. He married Berneice Walburn on June 26, 1946, in St. Cloud. A high school teacher, he taught in the Kerkhoven, Aitkin and Crosby-Ironton public schools for 33 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby. He was a lifetime member of the Elks' Lodge, and the American Legion.

Mr. Stumvoll is survived by his son, Joseph Stumvoll and his wife, Gloria, of Rochester; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and three brothers.
