William A. Helming, 88, of Terryville, husband of Dorothy (Brown) Helming and the late Martha (Osborne) Helming, died Tuesday (March 16, 2010) in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.


Bill was born March 31, 1921 in Middletown, CT. He was the son of the late Louis and Alvina (Schonfeldt) Helming.


He was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force of World War II, serving as a Staff Sergeant and flight mechanic gunner and flew missions over Germany in B 24's. William received his Bachelor's Degree at the American International College in Springfield, MA. Prior to his retirement in 1984, he was employed by the former New Departure Co. of Bristol.


Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Evon Bancroft and her husband, David, of Newington, Patricia Torres and her husband, Migueas, of Puerto Rico; his sister, Bertha Helming of Feeding Hills, MA; his grandchildren, Nicole Clukey, Sean Clukey and Krystal Torres; and several nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased, his son, Walter Helming; brothers, Otto and Arthur Helming; his sisters, Elsie Knodler, Lydia Reutter, and Maleda Barnes.


A graveside service will be held in West Cemetery, Bristol, at a later date.
