F. Lyle Trueblood, 92, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Franklin United Methodist Community, where he had been a resident for the past three years. He was a former resident of Shelburn.

He was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Sullivan County, to Riley Trueblood and Floy (Wilkins) Trueblood. He married Alice M. (Stephenson) Trueblood on Oct. 13, 1940. They were looking forward to their 70th anniversary.

He was a 1935 graduate of Shelburn High School and attended Indiana State University for one year on scholarship. He worked for neighboring farmers on school vacations and then for Fulford Produce Market until 1941, when he and a friend bought the produce business.

He also leased a Sinclair Service Station in Sullivan until he left for World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After passing tests and basic training, he was sent to Avon Park bombing range and later was geared to deploy to Japan when the atomic bomb terminated orders. He was discharged in December 1945.

He resumed his trucking business until he was named Standard Oil Co. commission agent, retiring after 25 years of service. He later worked for American Oil Co. and Amoco. When he sold the agencies, Lyle formed Trueblood Oil Co., and after many successful years, he sold the business to his son Ted and retired again at age 70.

Throughout his life, he was faithful to God and was baptized Feb. 26, 1951, placing membership with the Shelburn Church of Christ and later with the Westside Church of Christ. He was a 50-year member of Shelburn Masonic Lodge No. 369, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Terre Haute, and Shelburn American Legion Post 197.
