Born in Nuestadt, Oldenberg, Germany; When he was 24, he came to America in April 1884; He first met his future wife aboard the ship on the three-week trip to Galveston, Texas. On Aug. 9, 1884, he married Anna Johanna Bruns, and they raised four of their 8 children. His wife and four children preceded him in death. Lena died of dyptheria at age 2 or 3 the night Fred was born. Survivors are Fred, Emil, Anna (Yancey) and Erna (Raidt).
