At Colfax, Washington, on Wednesday evening, Dec. 3, 1890 Miss Yana Smith aged 24 years.

It was a beautiful June day of the year 1889 when Yana Smith in company with her sister Charity left this place for the state of Washington. The two sisters landed in Colfax where they have been teaching school. All was going well until about three weeks ago when Yana was taken sick with the malarial fever, and from which she never recovered.

Her parents were summoned by telegram and her mother was with her nine days previous to her death.

Her attending physician gave no encouragement from the first of her sickness owing to the fact that one of her lungs was entirely useless. She had had a severe attack of pneumonia several years ago and had never fully recovered. Those who knew Miss Yana were her friends and her death is a great loss both to her parents and her many acquaintances. Mrs. Smith arrived at this place with the remains Tuesday evening after a long and tiresome trip of nearly a week. The funeral took place at the M. E. Church, Thurs., Dec. 11, at 11 o'clock a.m. A. H. Leonard officiating.
