Their children were Mary, Joseph who died, James "Jake", Annie, Francis who died, and John Jr. John died of chronic myocardial heart disease of several years at age 81 y 8 mo. and 20 days. He kept bottles of liquor under his bed and in the barn, according to his grandson and was considered a "difficult" person to get along with. His son, James, married Gertrude Slivnik, whose parents opposed the wedding because they were worried that James might turn out like his father. As further proof of John's temper, at a church box social, Felix Zupan, a neighbor, outbid John for John's daughter's picnic box. John was so angry that he tried to wrest the picnic box away from the auctioneer ripping off the decorations as he did so and went home and nailed shut the door to the house so that Anna could not come home. She eloped with Felix to St. Cloud and as an elderly widow, still kissed Felix' photo good night every night before sleeping.
