Born in Newburger,Russia according to cemetery records.

Conrad Kreger, born in Russia in 1845, was an orphan who was raised by several different families. He never learned to read or write. He had 11 children, the youngest being John Kreger, St. born in 1891.
When his son John, was a young man, he and Conrad opened a grocery store in Laurel, Montana. While living in Laurel, which was called "German Town", they helped to build the church, which was still standing in 1983. In 1919, Conrad came to Sheridan to work as a beet farmer on an acreage south of Sheridan, immediately across from the property that is now Sheridan College. Being an orphan with no roots that he knew of, he placed a high value on his association with his son, John. When John Kreger married Molly Barrett in 1912, Conrad moved in with them and helped with the farming.
Conrad lived to be 91. He passed away in 1936 in Sheridan. The last 46 years of his life were spent with his son, John. All of John's children have fond remembrances of "Grosfader" and how he helped to raise all of his grandchildren.
