Johannes & his first wife Emilie Erlenmaier were married in Germany on August 30, 1877. Two years later they immigrated to the United States. Johannes came first on the vessel Switzerland that left Antwerp, Belgium on August 14, 1879 and arrived in Philadelphia on August 28, 1879. His wife, two children Martin (1 1/2) & Emilie (4 mo), and sister Pauline, arrived a couple months later on November 11, 1879 on the S.S. Zeeland from Antwerp to Philadelphia. They settled first in Philadelphia and by 1900 were living in Haycock Township, Bucks County, PA. He and Emilie had six children: Martin (1878-1942), Emilie (1879-1974), Mary (1881-1913), Clara (1885-1982), Albert (1887-1961), and Anna (1890-1950).
