A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted for Thomas Marc DeRouen at St. Marcellus Catholic Church on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in St. Marcellus Mausoleum. Visitation at David's Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to time of services.
Thomas Marc DeRouen died on February 11, 2006 at the age of 92 at Iberia Medical Center after a short illness. He was a native of New Iberia and moved to Rynella in 1962 where he lived until 2005. He was a devout Catholic, devoted husband and father, and had a deep appreciation of life in the country and the value of a job well done. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus Council 7050, and Iberia Cattlemen's Association. He was an active member and past trustee of St. Marcellus Catholic Church. Mr. DeRouen served for four years as a lieutenant and captain in the U. S. Army and participated in the Normandy Invasion in 1945. After receiving his B.S. and M.S. degrees at LSU and Texas A&M, respectively, he was an Instructor at Texas A&M, an Associate Professor at Louisiana Tech and an Assistant Professor at LSU in Baton Rouge, all in the field of Animal Science. He transferred to the Iberia Research Station in 1957 and remained there until his retirement in 1975. During his 30 years of retirement, he enjoyed raising cattle, sheep, game chickens and riding his horse and tractor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII. There will be military graveside honors conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1982 Honor Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marc J. DeRouen and Lelia Delcambre DeRouen and his brother Marcel "Snub" DeRouen, Sr. and his Aunt Odette Delcambre Voorhies. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lela D. DeRouen, and his five children, Patrick and his wife Carolyn Henderson of Denham Springs, Marcia Tittle of Dallas, Madeleine and her husband John Melton of Lafayette, Michele and her husband Klaus Meyer-Arendt of Pensacola and Sidney and his wife Rose Richardsonof Homer, LA; seven grandchildren: Zachary, Megan, Rita, Camille, Greta, Chloe' and Nicolas and one great-grandson, Jaron.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the American Heart Association – 312 Guilbeau Road Lafayette, LA 70506 or the American Diabetes Association – 9420 Lindale Avenue Suite B. Baton Rouge, LA 70815.

Serving as pallbearers will be Zachary DeRouen, Nicolas Meyer-Arendt, Klaus Meyer Arendt, Marcel "Snub" Derouen, Jr., Wayne DeRouen and Chad Broussard; Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Connie Voorhies, Donald Voorhies, James Boutte, Gene Jefferies, Henry Porter and Leon "Bubba" Minvielle, Jr.
