Fredus Howard Jacobs was born 13 Oct 1829, in Preble, Cortland Co., NY. He was a son of David Jacobs & Rhoda (Gaines)Jacobs.( His grandfather, Elnathan Jacobs, was a Revolutionary War veteran)
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a carpenter and millwright, living at various times in Preble, Pine Hill, Wisc., Jacobstown and Clyde Township, Whiteside Co.,Illinois.

Fredus married(1)Betsey M. Smith, N.Y. and had a son, Charles Amos Jacobs;
marr.(2)Cordelia Davis, Wisc. and had son, David Gaines Jacobs;
marr.(3) Margaret Ann Kennedy, 12 July 1861,in Clyde Township, IL. Their children: Anna Isadora,1862; Carrie Blanche,1864; Oraletta Lucinda(Etta),1865 and Emma Jane, 1869, and an infant son, d.y.

(It was Belle Jacobs, dau. of Martin Jacobs, who sent this photo to her first cousin, Anna(Jacobs)Alexander, Fredus' daughter in Ohio, in 1949. Belle said: "The lumber went into our houses on the farms up by the schoolhouse. Your father is the man on the load. My father holds the team. The picture was taken on the hill near the bridge at Jacobstown, IL., sometime in the early 1860s".)
