Benjamin was the son of David Epler and Margaret Uncapher. He married Elizabeth Anna Wade on 27 Oct 1861 in Marion Co., Ohio. They had at least 5 children, including William who is also buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, along with his wife, Anna.

According to the 1915 Beardstown Illinois City Directory, B. F. Epler was one of two First Ward Aldermen. He was also an Alderman for the Board of Health and on the Auditing, Bridge and Roads, Electric Lights, Ordinance, Purchasing, Streets and Alleys, and Sewer Committees. B. F. Epler was also a Cass County Deputy Officer. Benjamin F. Epler's wife's name was Laura and he worked as a constable and deputy sheriff and lived at 1309 E. 6th St., Beardstown, Illinois in 1915.
