Oliver R. Rohlfing, 83, who had resided at 247 S. Michigan Ave., for nearly 50 years, died at 4 a.m. this morning, Dec. 6, in the Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Rohlfing was born Dec. 13, 1899, in Napoleon, the son of John and Clara Brandt Rohlfing. He was married to Mabel Clemons Aug. 31, 1927, in Greensburg and she survives. He was a member of the Smyrna Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge.
He was retired, and had worked as a mechanic for Hyatt Chevrolet, Ben Jones, Tom Sibbitt and also for Earl Vanderbur in engine repair.
In addition to his widow, survivors include two nephews: John Rohlfing, Shelbyville, and Wayne Rohlfing, of rural Greensburg; two sisters-in-law: Alma Kutchback, and Marjory Clark, both of Greensburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Clifford and Clarence Rohlfing, and one sister, Margaret Rohlfing, who died in infancy.
The services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Dennison pastor of the Sandcreek Baptist Church, and the Rev. Dennis Schwalenberg, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating, and with burial in the South Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday. The K of P Lodge No. 148 will hold a ritualistic service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
