Otto M Wiese son of Karl and Martha Wiese, was born in Germany Nov. 10. 1888. At the age of four years he came to America and settled at Parker, S.D. In 1906 he came to the Oakes community where he had been a resident for the past 51 years. Mr. Wiese had been in failing health for the last three year and passed away at the Oakes hospital Tuesday, June 18 at the age of 68 years 7 months and 8 days.
On Nov 24, 1915 he was united in marriage to Mina Oxtoby at Oakes. To this union five children were born, all of whom survive, as well as his widow. They are Mrs J.C. Pfeiffer of Menoken, ND(Eudora), Raymond of Oakes, Clifford of Moorhead, Mrs Harold Treeby(Merna) of Helca and Walter of Oakes. Eight grandchildren also survive as well as two sisters Mrs. Ray Gallion (Bertha) of Paewaukee, Wis; and Mrs. Pete Brinig (Amm) of Butte, Mont. Other survivors are on brother Fred Wiese of Oakes and and aunt Mrs. Bertha Engel of Sioux Falls, SD. Mr Wiese was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and his parents.
He had served as a member of the Bear Creek township board for the past 12 years as well as having served on the Climax school district board for six years.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Oakes, Friday, June 21 at 2 p.m. with Rev Paul Beeman of Helca officiating. Mrs Anna Melby was organist and Mrs George Lyon and Mrs Albert Klein sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and Emmett Haugen sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". Pall bearers were I.B. Berger, Paul Roney, William Roney, Clair Gerrard, Raymond Schnell and John Feist. Burial was in Oakesview Cemetery with Haugen-Baldwin Funeral Home of Oakes in charge of the arrangements.
