Donald John Green passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at the Waunakee Manor. He was born Oct. 8, 1914, the son of Willard S. Green and Louise Niebuhr.
Donald Green and Marion Esser were united in marriage on October 20, 1934. He and Marion graduated from Middleton High School in 1932. He served a tour in the U.S. Army during World War II and then continued in the Wisconsin National Guard. He was also employed with the Unemployment Compensation Department as an analyst. Don was active in retirement doing taxes for senior citizens and delivering Meals on Wheels. He will be remembered for his quick wit, generosity to all that call him grandpa with both his time and talents. Donald was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton and also worshiped with mom at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Our parents taught us God has many houses. He was a member of the Middleton Historical Society serving on the board of directors. He also served on the board of directors for the First Lutheran Church, for which his grandfather donated the land.
Don is survived by his children, Ruth Ann (Franklin) Haberland, Donna Green, James Green (Bill Diederich) and John Green (Susan Porter Green); grandchildren; great-grandchildren. Thank you grandpa for all the encouragement in exploring the world and our careers.
His wife, Marion Esser Green, preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willard, Kenneth, Marvin and Richard; and sister, Beatrice Ersland.
Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, with Reverend Cynthia Ganzkow-Wold presiding. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Middleton. Family and friends may call on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials can be made in his name to First Lutheran Church or St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
