Sam, as he was called his whole life, was born to Coleman Coombes & Delphine "Elmore" Coombes in Smith Co Kansas. They later moved to Cowley CO Kansas where he met & married Maude Holmes on Jan 25, 1905 in Winfield, Kansas. In 1913, they moved the family to a farm to Lucerne, Idaho (north of Buhl) He farmed there for many years, then in 1935, moved to Galt, California.
There were seven children from this union: Erma Marie; Marion Kenneth; Delbert Franklin; Grace Maude; Lloyd Russell; Irene Lois; Anna Gwen.
He was buried in the Galt Cemetery when he died.
