He was the oldest of 14 children, known as 'Happy' because of his constant smile and twinkle in his eye. He was one of many talented construction people involved in rebuilding Saint Peter's Church of Lindsay in 1918. This work led to his life-long occupation as a builder of custom homes and as a master cabinet maker.

During his 62 years in construction, he gained the reputation of being the best cabinet maker in the area.
They had 3 children.
