Daniel Weitzel, 88, of Greeley died Sunday, Feb 23, at North Colorado Medical Center.
He was born Jan 28, 1909, in Laporte to John and Elizabeth (Lebsock) Weitzel, who came to Colorado from Frank, Russia.
In 1938, he married Ruth Marie Cook. She died Feb 9, 1994.
Mr. Weitzel was reared in Timnath. He moved to Greeley in 1949 and started a business hauling city water to farmers in Weld County for domestic use. His business, Dan the Water Man, continued until he retired in 1971. Dan the Water Man’s truck was part of Greeley’s Fourth of July Parade every year, as Lion’s Club members distributed cups of water along the parade route.
During World War II he tested radios for military aircraft in San Francisco area.
After his retirement, Mr. Weitzel was active in Optimist Club, Partners and the Cerebral Palsy Association.
Survivors are two daughters, Connie Holley Darnell of Boulder and Gloria Ann Weitzel of Galeton; a son, Danny Wayne of Greeley; five grandchildren. A son, Thomas Eugene, is deceased.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church, 2101 16th St. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to Triangle Cross Ranch, P.O. Box 727, Galeton 80622.
