However, the Kansas State Census states he was born in North Dakota. His parents were William Julius & Emilee Ella (Hanson) Berndt. His mother was born in North Dakota so that may be where the confusion of his place of birth comes from. Ernest married Mabel Marie Germeroth on March 2, 1946 at the Old Wooden Lutheran Church .at Hoxie, Sheridan, Kansas.
Ernest was a farmer and was mauled by a bull. His brother held him on his lap all the way to the Logan County Hospital where he died on Sept. 23, 1969. He was survived by his parents, a brother. and 3 children. Funeral service was held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
