KILLING NEAR LULA
George McNutt, a farmer living near Lula was shot and instantly killed by Charles Dugan, a neighbor, late Sunday afternoon. Dugan gave himself up to Deputy sheriff Whitson, who, with Assistant County Attorney Mathis responded to a phone call i informing them of the tragedy.
Very little is known of the cause leading up tot he shooting. Dugan states that McNutt came to his house in a state of intoxication and began making threats against his life and against the life of his wife. The two men then went to the house of a neighbor, C C Myers, where Dugan secured a gun. The quarrel was renewed in the yard, after Dugan had tried to slip away and get home. Seeing McNutt reach for his gun, Dugan fired at close range, filling McNutt's breast with shot.
Dugan is in jail and will be given a preliminary hearing within a short time.
