Greene County native Robert E. Kirbach, 77, of Alton died Saturday evening, April 30, 2005, at his home.

He was born March 4, 1928, in Rockbridge to Ben and Mabel (Fitzgerald) Kirbach, and married the former Glenna Morrow June 10, 1950, at St. John's Catholic Church in Carrollton. She survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Gloria Gray and her husband, Gary, of Godfrey; a son, Kirby Kirbach and his wife, Cindy, of Alton; four grandchildren, Holly Miller and her husband, Christopher, of Glendale Heights, April Buel and her husband, Kevin, of Alton and Robert K. Kirbach and David A. Kirbach, both of Alton; two great-grandchildren, Trinity and Willow Buel of Alton; three brothers, Vincent Kirbach and his wife, Elaine, of Cleveland, Ohio, Bernard Kirbach and his wife, Jane, of Bradenton, Fla., and Albert Kirbach and his wife, Diana, of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Bernadine Snyders and her husband, Connie, of Batchtown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Theresa Cole; a brother, Maurice Kirbach; and an infant grandson, Christopher Kirbach.

A 1948 graduate of Greenfield High School, he worked for 36 years at Illinois Bell and AT&T, retiring in June of 1984. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Jerseyville and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Visitation was Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral service were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Roger Schoenhofen officiating. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Greenfield.
