Mel, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, at home, surrounded by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, April 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice, Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute.

Mel was the son of the late Ernest and Martha (McGuirk) Pohl. After graduating from Beal City High School in 1954, Mel joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1954-1956. On Nov. 22, 1958, he married Roselynn Kurtz at St. Michael's Church in Remus. He was a truck driver and faithful employee at Central Concrete for over 42 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus Council 3651 in Beal City. Some of his favorite pastimes included golfing with his buddies, and even with his wife. After the age of 70 he recorded two holes-in-one. He also enjoyed watching grandchildren's sporting events, family gatherings, family reunions, and class reunions, his AM coffee group, and hunting and fishing with his grandchildren.

Mel is survived by his wife of 51 years, Roselynn; six children, Christine Pohl of Fayetteville, AR, Jim (Krista) Pohl of Clare, Barbara (Randall) Majewski of Allendale, John (Tammi) Pohl of Comstock Park, Elizabeth "Libby" (Cary) Murch and Sandy (Dave) Sabuda, both of Mt. Pleasant; 17 grandchildren, Tyler and Lauren Sabuda, Nick, Hannah, and Natalie Murch, Bentley, Spencer, Mason, Mallory Rose, and Sawyer Pohl, Paige, Shaine, Hailey, and Haiden Majewski, and Jenna, Heather, and Alivia Pohl; six siblings, Donald Pohl and Howard (Delores) Pohl, both of Mt. Pleasant, Gerald (Katie) Pohl of Beal City, Mary (Keith) Bowers of Mt. Pleasant, Rosie (Dick) Smith of Augres, and Dolores (Jim) Epple of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters-in-law, Laura Pohl and Ernestine Pohl, both of Mt. Pleasant; brother-in-law, Harris (Mary) Diehl of Mecosta; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Raymond Pohl, Richard Pohl, and Maxine Diehl.

Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
