Mrs. Betty Adams Tillett, age 81, died Friday, May 7, in Shelbyville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Hoyte Adams, Sr., and Lucille Jackson Adams Waters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Gerald Tillett, Sr., and brother, Hoyte Adams, Jr.

Except when traveling with her husband for his business, Mrs. Tillett lived in Shelbyville from birth until her parting. She graduated from Central High School in 1946 and attended Tennessee Tech. She joined First Baptist Church of Shelbyville at age 12 and remained a member throughout her life.

While her children were young, Mrs. Tillett devoted her time to their activities. Later, her successful career as a businesswoman spanned over 30 years as owner of Accents Gift Shops in Shelbyville and Tullahoma, TN. She was known and loved for her gracious kindness in her business, social and family life.

Mrs. Tillett is survived by her brother Robert D. Adams and wife Lou Anne of Ocala, FL; son Gerald Tillett, Jr., and wife Marikay of Huntsville, AL; daughter Barbara Lynn Cooke and husband Phil of Shelbyville; special niece Judy Tillett Young and husband Ronal of Bell Buckle, TN; and sister-in-law Agnes Adams of Tullahoma, TN.

Her grandchildren include Julie Turner and husband John; Caroline Roeber and husband Dana; and Cary Cooke. Step-grandchildren are Evan Johnson, Lauren Coffelt and husband Wes. Mrs. Tillett's great-grandchildren are Katherine and Abigail Turner; Ireland and Leyton Roeber; Ridge Timmers and Ashlynn Cooke; and step-great-grandchildren Marissa and Weston Coffelt. She also has other surviving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel in Shelbyville, TN. Memorial service will be at Feldhaus Chapel on Tuesday, May 11, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Bobby McGee and Dr. Kevin Minchey officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Carriage House Inn Assisted Living for its compassionate care of our beloved Betty and their support of our family as she made her journey home.
