Friday, March 1 1912, page 6 WM LEITWEIN'S FATHER DEAD
Mitchell Leitwein, aged 83 years, died Monday at the home of his son, Aaron Leitwein, of West Lynn street, Springfield, of a complication of diseases resultant upon old age. The deceased was born in Hamburg, Germany, and came to the United States in 1843, settling at Union, Franklin county. In 1885 he removed to Greene county, where he made his home until his death.
He is survived by seven children - Mrs Charles Scheining of Chicago, Miss Emma Gorg of Union, Will Leitwein of Monett, Aaron Leitwein of Springfield, Mrs Nettie Rippey of Springfield and Mrs Mary Corbett whose present address in Illinois is unknown.
Mr Leitwein served in the Federal army during the civil war and was a member of the Union Post of the GAR.
Funeral services were held from the residence of the son on West Lynn street Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and was in charge of Rev W E Sullens, pastor of the Campbell Street Methodist church, South. Services at the grave were in charge of the Odd Fellows, of which order the deceased was a member. Interment was made in Maple Park cemetery. - Springfield Republican.
