Mr. Montgomery departed this life Tues. May 11, 2010 at Wayne Medical Center at the age of 83 yrs 6 mos 9 dys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Lillian and brothers Aaron, Cranson and Carl. Mr. Montgomery served in the US Marines , was retired from Murray Ohio Manufactoring Co., and attended Ray's Chapel Baptist Church. Being a member of one of the most talented country music singing and songwriting families, he was well known throughout the country. Although he could sing and pick the guitar very well and could have been a professional musician, he chose to live the simple life; farming, working, enjoying family life, and in his earlier years rasing livestock; especially horses and horse trading. He will be truly missed by everyone.
He is survived by his wife Clara Bell Skelton Montgomery; daughters Patricia Joyce Burns and Pamela Mae Thompson all of Waynesboro, TN., brother Earl (Peanut) Montgomery of Sheffield, AL.; sisters Melba Joyce Montgomery of Nashville and Vida Ruth Montgomery of Sheffield, Al.; granddaughter Amy Lynn Suggs of Chattanooga, step-grandsons Brandon Burns and Jeremy Burns both of Waynesboro, TN.; several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
