Tanner L. Ferris, 19, born May 9, 1991 in Nederland, Texas died on May 13, 2010 in a three car accident on Texas 21 near Bastrop, Texas. Tanner lived in Vidor, Texas his entire life except a five year period from ‘99-‘04 in Moss Bluff, Louisiana and was a 2009 Honors Graduate of Vidor High School. He was a member of The Corps of Cadets and finance major at Texas A&M University Class of 2013, and was to be Company Clerk in the forthcoming year. He played saxophone in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band. Tanner had contracted to the United States Army and would be a commissioned officer upon graduation of Texas A&M. Tanner was a playful honor student that often made fellow classmates' study of tough subjects easier. He was a natural at mathematics and loved to study history, he knew all about various types of weaponry and was a dedicated video game player. In 2009 Tanner Ferris received a Congressional Nomination to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, however, choosing instead to remain in Texas and attend A&M as part of B-Company in The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.

Survivors include his parents: George F. Ferris, Jr and Sarah M. Ferris, his brother Marshall F. Ferris and grandfather Lloyd Ray Cargill, Uncles and Aunts Dennis and Kathy Davis, Lloyd and Karen Cargill, Dennis and Pam Cargill and Gene and Cheryl Bell, Aunt Sandra Ferris Ezzell of Panama City Beach, Florida, Paul Hickenbottom of LaPorte, Texas, Charles and Ginger Keenan of Lake Charles. Preceded in death by grandparents Lea Ila Cargill of Vidor, and George F. Ferris and Frances L. Ferris of Port Arthur and his Aunt Marilyn K Hickenbottom of LaPorte, Texas.Pallbearers will be members of Tanners B-Co outfit from Texas A&M: Kyle Prince, JP Barton, Jeff Perkins, Rudy Rodriguez, Mark Poehl, Kevin Greenwald, Frank Marquette, and Jena Bailey, Honorary Pallbearers: Alyson Stetina, Erin Penney, Garrett Erskin, and Eric Espinoza, and Christian Bellini.


Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at First Baptist Church, 350 N. Main St., Vidor, Texas, 77662 under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Williamson Cemetery in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home
