"Franz Endres was born in Lampaden, Germany on 19 Jun 1785. His parents were Nicholaus Endres and Johannetta Schue.

He came to the United States on 10 Jun 1852, arriving in New York on the ship John Stuart from Liverpool. In 1855 he was living in the Town of Berry. According to the Wisconsin State Census his household consisted of 1 female and 3 males. He was not a property owner as he paid no taxes. Therefore he either rented a house or lived with one of his sons, John or Michael, who owned farms in the Town of Berry. Who the 3 male and 1 female household members listed in the State Census were is unknown. In the U. S. Census of 1860, Franz was listed as living with his son Peter in the Town of Springfield and he remained there until his death on 17 Jun 1864. It is possible he moved in with Peter when Peter's wife was killed in 1858. Franz Endres is buried at St Martin's Cemetery at Martinsville, Wisconsin. His wife, Catharina Koltes, was born in Ollmuth, Germany, sometime around 1783, but her birth certificate could not be found. She died in Ollmuth on 3 Jan 1848, son John reporting the death. She is buried in Germany. Her parents were John Koltes and Marguerite Thielen. Franz Endres and Catharine Koltes were married 4 Jan 1810 in Ollmuth, Germany. Catharina Koltes was the widow of Nicolas Wagner.

It appears that Franz Endres was a rich man for his day as measured by the amount of land he owned in Ollmuth. It all was sold in the last few years before he migrated to Wisconsin in 1852. Evidently he shared his money with his children to make it possible for them to buy farms and other property in Wisconsin. In the early 1800s the amount of land owned was measured in mornings. That is, a man could farm ⅔ of an acre in one morning. By these standards, Franz Endres owned about 180 acres of land in Ollmuth. The land he owned was described as meadow, or farm land, or timber land and so forth. Each of these types of land had its own number on the land deed."
