Upon graduation from Box Elder High School he attended the University of Utah, where he played football, boxed and wrestled. He served an LDS mission to Brazil from 1941 to 1943. Upon his release he entered the Army Air Corps, serving as a bombardier/navigator during WWII.
He married Elizabeth Ririe Manning on November 30, 1944 in the Logan Temple. Following the war he completed his degree at the "U." He was recalled to active duty as an Army intelligence officer during the Korean War.
He and Elizabeth raised their family in Salt Lake City, Scottsdale, AZ, Los Angeles and Salinas, CA. He taught seminary, sold insurance and worked as a civilian employee for the Army in the education centers at Ft. McArthur and Ft. Ord.. He remained an active, faithful member of the LDS Church, serving as an LDS chaplain in the Army Reserves in AZ and CA and as the first bishop of the Ft. Ord Ward during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, three sisters and a grandson. He is survived by children Aileen (Dennis) Bench, Clinton, John (Carolyn), Bountiful, Elizabeth (Stuart) Rosenblatt Greenwich, NY; Bruce (Sheryl), Snohomish, WA; and Carolyn (David) Ricker, Newnan, GA, 17 grandchildren, brothers Ben (Merle) Call, Centerville, and Don (Marie) Call, Ogden, and sister Joan (Evan) Terry, Salt Lake.
A private graveside service will be held in the Brigham City Cemetery on Tuesday, May 25, 2010.
