Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tues., Jan. 16, for Delores Walter, 78, Howard, who died on Jan. 12, 2007, at the Howard Good Samaritan Center following a short battle with cancer. The services will be held in Endeavor Presbyterian Church at Fedora, and burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Howard.

Visitation is Monday (today) until 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.

Delores Selix was born on April 16, 1928, near Brookings to Thaddeus and Eva (Noffsinger) Selix. She attended grade school in Brookings, Lake and Miner counties. She graduated as valedictorian from Argonne High School in 1946 and then taught at rural schools in Roswell, Vermillion and Beaver townships in Miner County on special permits. She married LaVern Walter on Nov. 6, 1948, at Mitchell. They lived on a farm south of Fedora for 12 years before moving to a farm southeast of Fedora, where they lived from 1961-2001. They retired and moved into Howard in October 2001.

She was a member of the Kill Kare Extension Club, Happy Pals 4-H Club, Miner County 4-H Leaders Association, Presbyterian Women's Group, Howard Civic League, Canova American Legion Auxiliary and Fedora Endeavor Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, superintendent and elder. She wrote two books.

Survivors include her husband, LaVern of Howard; two sons, Joe (Julie) and Will (Lisa), both of Howard; three daughters, Marilyn (Dale) Shumaker and Emily (Jason) Feldhaus, both of Howard, and Rosie (Scott) Jamison of Madison; a daughter-in-law, Sue Walter; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Norma Selix of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Claude, John David, Ted and Glenn Selix; four sisters, Shirley Bench, Evelyn Bruske, Lucille Breck and Donna Balle; and her eldest son, Ronald, on Dec. 19, 2006.

The Willoughby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
