Darrel Eugene Hill died on Saturday, June 19th at 10:30 p.m., at age 72.
Darrel was born on July 13, 1931, in Robinson, IL. He was the son of Paul Eugene Hill and Dorlis Jenkins Hill, who both preceded him in death.
He was a 1950 graduate of Lawrenceville Township High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War, from 1950 until 1953. After returning, he met Elaine B. Fallman, also from Lawrenceville. She graduated from Lawrenceville Township High School in 1952. They were married on December 12, 1953. They had six children. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2000. He worked at the Lawrenceville Texaco Refinery from 1970 until it closed in 1985. He then transferred to Gult Coastal Refinery in Newark, Delaware, where he worked until he retired in 1996. He returned to Lawrenceville that same year and did consulting work for Indian Refinery for the next two years. Darrel coached girls softball for over 20 year's.
Survivors include one son, Mike Hill of St. Francisville; five daughters, Diana Theriac of Mooresville, IN, Gina Fields of Bedford, IN, Karen Carter, Laura Hoke and Marianne Weger all of Lawrenceville; one sister, Nina Blackburn of Taylorville; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, June 23, 2004, at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL. Burial was in the Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, Claremont, IL.
Memorial donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice with envelopes available at the funeral home.
